Healthy Cacao Kiwi Oats Recipe

Here's what I had for breakfast today. It's Spring here, and the mornings are still a little chilly, so oatmeal is something that I love to make to wake myself up.

This warm bowl of goodness is packed with vitamins and fibre with a chocolatey twist. Here's a nutrient dense meal that will keep you satisfied until lunch time.

Healthy Cacao Kiwi Oats

0.25 cup of uncooked steel cut oats (makes 1 cup)
1 kiwi fruit
1 cup of water water
0.5 cups of soy milk or nut milk of choice
1 tablespoon of cacao powder (I like Healthworks Raw Organic)
2 tsp of coconut sugar or sugar of choice (to taste)

  1. Place soy milk and water  in saucepan. Add steel cut oats and cook on low heat for 10 minutes (or follow instructions as directed by the oats you are using). Stir occasionally.
  2. Add the cacao powder and stir.
  3. Simmer for 5 minutes.
  4. Turn off the heat.
  5. Add coconut sugar and stir.
  6. Serve with chopped kiwifruit.
Note: Steel cut oats take longer to cook than rolled oats. They are lower on the glycemic index, so your blood sugar levels stay stable, and you feel fuller for longer. They are also lower in calories than rolled oats.
